Should you install gutter guard?

If you have managed to find our blog post, we assume that you probably have some idea what gutter guard is, however, we have learned over the years never to assume.

What is gutter guard?

Gutter guard, can be manufactured from plastic, aluminium, stainless steel, and Colorbond and is fitted or installed to your gutters to prevent leaves and debris collecting in them.

Why install gutter guard?

As mentioned above, gutter guard is designed to help prevent your gutters filling with leaves and debris. The benefits of this are:

Save time and money - while you will still need to occasionally clean your gutters or remove debris that has collected on top of your gutter guard, it will take significantly less time and money than if you were having to clean leaves and debris out of your gutters.

Gutter guard helps prevent animal infestation - not only does gutter guard reduce sitting and stagnant water - which keeps mozzie breeding at bay, but it will also deter mice, rats, possums and bats from calling your gutters or ceiling cavity home.

Gutter guard provides fire protection - if you live in an area that is prone to bushfires, gutter guard will reduce the amount of dry debris and leaves in your gutter. In the fire season, embers can travel a long distance on the wind. If you have significant fuel in your gutters, it puts your home at greater risk.

Improve water flow - if you have ever had grubby gutters and a downpour of rain, you’ll know that rather than directing all of the water that comes off your roof into your downpipes, your gutters will tend to overflow. Gutter guard keeps your gutters clear of debris, leaving more room for water to escape via the channels it is designed to follow.

Increase the longevity of your gutters - most gutters are made from metal and are prone to rusting and corroding in the event that moisture is trapped in them. By ensuring your gutters are clear and that water can run away, you reduce the chance of your gutters being damaged by stagnant water.
